Margaret Ng: "March that will go down in history"

Margarte Ng Ngoi-Yee wrote in an op-ed piece for SCMP:
"There is an increasingly vocal demand for change in mainland China itself. How Beijing handles Hong Kong's demand for democracy under the "one country, two systems" principle and the Basic Law will set the tone for how it will handle the demands on the mainland.

It is not necessarily about whether "giving in" to Hong Kong means doing the same on the mainland. It is not a yes-or-no question, but more a matter of how: how to manage a demand that is inevitable, and in keeping with modern trends and expectations. So far, Beijing's response has been moderate, keeping options open.

Undeniably, Hong Kong is ready for universal suffrage. The people have spoken. It is now for the executive authorities and for the Legislative Council to follow through on the issue."
