Re: Fons' Feedback

Fons just IM me and said that he thought the Chinese bloggers have sanitized the news, after reading the piece on Chinese bloggers' reactions to recent Anti-Japanese protests I wrote today. No, the Chinese blogger, at least the one I quoted and he referred to on his post did not sanitize the news. It was all my fault. In that piece, I tried to show views that have not been reported on mainstream media and therefore neglected to translate the parts on "Japanese pigs". That Chinese post was very long and I could only selectively translate a few things out of it.

Indeed, "Japanese pigs" and "Little Japan" are terms that Chinese netizens use in anti-japanese posts. Honestly, I find these terms disturbing too. It feels like seeing one good friend fighting another good friend. On the other hand, I also understand the context that Chinese people are in - that things won't change unless the top leadership allows for a more honest and deeper discussion on the topic...

Anyway, I learn a new lesson on writing today. Thanks Fons! The feedback mechanism in the blogging process is great!
