Cyd Ho's First Post-Election Radio Show

Finally got around to listen to Cyd Ho's first internet radio weekly show of her own from last Wednesday in mp3. It was quite refreshing to hear about the sworn-in ceremony and how things work in general at Legco from the perspectives of a former legislative councillor. She also explained the function of Legco's financial committee and Emily Lau's role in it as a chairperson.

What is equally interesting in this show is the way audiences are recruited. At the beginning of the show, there were only 80 computers* connected to the live audio-streaming server. Throughout the program, Cyd urged her audience who were listening to spread the word about the internet broadcast using ICQ. 110 computers* were connected to the server twenty minutes after the show have started. By the end of the show the number grew to around 210.

I was actually quite surprised that the numbers were so low. I would have imagined that there would be at least a few thousand people listening to it. But according to Heterotopias, past experience indicates that there are often ten times more people downloading the audio show (me including) than listening to it live. So the actual number of listeners are not that appalling low.

Cyd Ho has just broadcasted another radio show today. Looks like Wong Yuk-man, one of the radio talk show host who were forced to quit under political pressures earlier this year will be guest on the show. I look forward to listening it, although I must add that Wong is a very loud person, I am not sure whether I can stand the volume.

*each computer connection may have more than one listeners.
